Vida E Paz Children's Project
Dondo, Mozambique

Lisa has spent the last three years working with orphaned and displaced
children in Central Mozambique. Through this experience she has seen a
great need to provide a place for children to call home. They need food,
clothing and shelter, but ultimately their deep need is for belonging. They
need a place where they can grow not only physically but also where their
emotional and spiritual needs can be met through ‘foster parents’ that care
and are committed to life relationships. The Bible says that God “puts the
lonely in families.” Lisa’s heart is that every displaced, lonely and orphaned
child in central Mozambique would not only be fed, but that they would find
themselves rooted in a loving family, and grow out of that foundation into
becoming a secure, well-adjusted adult that can make a difference in their
world.
The history of central Mozambique is a place racked with war, flooding and
drought as well as on-going HIV/Aids epidemic. All of these catastrophes
have affected family life in Mozambique, resulting in over 1.6 million
orphaned children in Mozambique with little hope for a future.
“Vida E Paz” Children’s Project (Life & Peace) is designed to bring life and
peace to these children who have experienced death and destruction on many
fronts. The goal of this project is to set up a group of model family dwellings
in a village setting, where children will be taken in and provided for, but
also taught livelihood skills.
Each home will have a set of parents and house 5-6 children. The
Mozambican parents will be role models that will demonstrate God’s love to
these kids, and “parent” them into maturity – spiritually, emotionally and
physically. Our desire is that each family unit eventually takes ownership of
their home and gardens and that the complimentary livelihood skills taught to
the families will sustain them once project funding ends.

Vida E Paz Project seeks to accomplish the following:
• Build houses that will adequately provide for the needs of 2 adults and 5-6
children.
• Set up a revolving small animal fund to enable families to raise chickens
and goats,
• Enable each family to purchase and plant fields for farming rice, potatoes
and vegetables that will result in a nutritious diet for all.
• Assist the children with their learning needs: uniforms, books, teaching
them to read and write.
• Organize sports and training events to share the village ‘life and peace’
with the neighboring community.
