Anteneh Emeru knows first hand the power of the written word. As a talented
and popular journalist in Ethiopia during the communist era, he was
imprisoned three times for his writings and editorials. Finally in 1988, he
escaped through Kenya and immigrate to Canada as a political refugee.

Honouring a commitment he made to fellow inmates, Anteneh pursued a
career in health services, completing a degree in nursing at Georgian College,
Barrie, ON., in 2006. Each year of study required Anteneh to purchase the
latest editions of medical text books. Recalling how few books he and his
classmates had throughout his school days in Ethiopia, he became
increasingly dismayed that perfectly good text books were discarded every
year as newer editions were released.

This year, Anteneh is going to do something about it. With your help he will
send a container of used school books to the area in Ethiopia where he grew
up. In collaboration with the Gojjam Development Association (the same
group implementing the L.I.F.E. Scholarship Project), he will make sure your
used High School and University texts are distributed to Preparatory Schools,
colleges and universities in Ethiopia - starting with the Gojjam Region.

The number of containers he ends up sending will depend on the number of
books and amount of funds for shipping he receives.

So start saving those books!
